Savannah Danse Theatre was founded in 1998 on Talahi Island. After 15 wonderful seasons and HUGE new facility, we have have grown leaps and bounds! The company was started by Artistic Director Suzanne Braddy as a way to  spread the excitement of dance throughout Savannah. The city of Savannah hasn’t had it’s own ballet company since 1985 and we’re happy to be the only professional ballet company in town! Each year we present a new contemporary works show in the fall and a classical ballet in the spring. And of course, the jewel of our season is The Nutcracker in Savannah.

 

 

The Nutcracker in Savannah is our localized version of the holiday
favorite! We have our professional company members, guest artists, authentic choreographers, dancers from different dance schools, and local celebrities that make our production particularly special. Your family will delight in the classic music by Tchaikovsky and costumes will blow you away! If it isn’t a family tradtion, make it one!

 

 

 

 

SDT is constantly growing and trying to do bigger and better productions. Each season is kicked off with a fresh, new contemporary works show. Each year, this show has a different theme, features several choreographers and new company pieces. Usually in a smaller venue, these contemporary pieces draw the audience in and make them feel like they are part of the show! You never know what you are going to experience! Each season is capped off with a production of a classical ballet. We believe that ballet is dance in it’s purest form, and we hold true to that. Past productions have included Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and many others. These productions are  presented in some of Savannah most beautiful, historical venues and feature our company members and local dancers from the Islands Dance Academy. IDA is the home of the Savannah Danse Theatre and many of the students feed into the company. IDA offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, musical theatre, and contemporary dance.
