Dancers let their hair down for SDT's 2009 Summer Camp "Hairspray" dance

Savannah Danse Theatre has a long history bringing its talent to the community, from traditional Renaissance dancing at the Savannah Shakespeare Festival, performances at Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston, SC to offering a variety of summer camps for area children. For the last 10 years SDT has offered their performance of The Nutcracker in Savannah to area schools, with the last four years featuring live orchestral accompaniment.

Most recently SDT received a grant from the City of Savannah Cultural Affairs Commission "A Weave A Dream" program to stage a production of SDT's original adaptation of a prequel to the Nutcracker entitled The Golden Pecan. SDT worked closely with Savannah's performing arts schools, Savannah Arts Academy and Shuman Middle School, giving their students the opportunity to perform, choreograph, and assist with set design. It was performed at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts as part of SDT's Nutcracker series.
